Concerts in October at the Music! exhibition

Sat 22 October, 5:00 p.m. A piano evening Free admission, programme EUR 10.
Celebrated Swedish pianist Martin Sturfält will perform Beethoven’s grand sonata Hammerklavier, as well as rarely heard compositions by Wilhelm Stenhammar and Johan Helmich Roman. Sturfält is dedicated to Swedish music and his discography includes a highly praised recording of Stenhammar’s piano pieces.
Sun 23 October, 2 p.m. Come, sweet love! Free admission, programme EUR 10.
Led by Kati Pirttimaa, the HYMSKK Helsinki University Music Society Chamber Choir will light up the shortening days with 16th century love songs by composers such as Dowland, Palestrina and Hassler. Some things never change: love, longing, the darkness of autumn and the anticipation of spring have been part of human life for centuries.
Sat 29 October, 2 p.m. Wolfgang and Einojuhani Free admission, programme EUR 5.
Neue Quartet performs W. A. Mozart’s String Quartet No. 15 and Einojuhani Rautavaara’s String Quartet No. 1. The members of the quartet are Sirja Puurtinen, Johanna Metsälä, Linda Palin and Anu Luukela.
Sat 29 October, 7 p.m. Madrigals! Tickets EUR 15.
Led by Jukka Jokitalo, the 12-member Hiljaa Ensemble performs madrigals from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as a few newer pieces with lyrics by William Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
Sun 30 October, 2 p.m. Autumn Elegy Free admission, programme EUR 10/5.
This concert will feature songs from the early autumn repertoire of the Helsinki-based female choir Elegia. What does it sound like when the happy summer turns into sour grey autumn? When love turns into soft nostalgia and passion turns into an accepting yearning? The concert will be led by Sabrina Ljungberg.
