Maria Kalaniemi & Timo Alakotila

Accordion artist, composer Maria Kalaniemi and pianist, composer Timo Alakotila are award-winning pioneers in the field of new Finnish folk music. They have played in various ensembles and performed in numerous concerts around the world. Over the years, Maria and Timo’s cooperation has developed into an excellent, seamless, musical alliance. The concert will feature the duo’s own compositions, as well as Finnish and Finnish-Swedish compositions, minuets, polskas, polkas and tango as Maria and Timo’s fresh arrangements.

Maria Kalaniemi celebrates her 60th birthday in 2024. In the summer of 2023, it was also 40 years since she won the first-ever Kultainen Harmonikka (‘Golden Accordion’) competition in 1983 and rose to national and, later on, international awareness. The concert is part of a series of anniversary concerts.
