Finnish Photography Day

At the event, two leading figures in Finnish photographic art will offer a deeper look into their work. Stefan Bremer, in his talk Redeeming the Documentary Image, explains how he approaches strangers, gains their permission to photograph them, and thus earns his images. Elina Brotherus speaks under the title Claiming Space in One’s Own Images. Her practice moves from personal history to art history, from self-portraiture to a broader human presence. She approaches her subjects at times with mischievous playfulness, at other times with seriousness. Brotherus reminds us that women must claim space both in images and in public space – and use their own voice with confidence.
After the lectures, the program continues with a discussion and a tour of the exhibition Helsinki by Night led by Stefan Bremer. The event will be held in Finnish.
The concert is included in the price of admission (€17/11), no separate fee. We accept the Museum Card.
