Punk! exhibition’s program features talks and documentary films
The events accompanying the exhibition celebrating 50 years of punk in Helsinki is being extended to Kino Regina.
The ‘Punk! – 50 years of non-conformity on the streets of Helsinki’ exhibition, organised by Villa Hakasalmi and the Punk Museum, offers visitors the chance to delve deeper into the history of punk through a series of discussion sessions. These events serve as introductions to the documentary films in the ‘Punk 50’ series, which are being screened at Kino Regina. The exhibition opens at Villa Hakasalmi on Friday 23 October, and the film series begins at Kino Regina on Sunday 25 October.
Tickets to any film in Kino Regina’s themed programme grant admission to the exhibition at Villa Hakasalmi at a reduced price (€11). Kino Regina is located in Central Library Oodi, which is just a short walk from Villa Hakasalmi.

The Riot Grrrl phenomenon in Finland

The Riot Grrrl movement originated in the United States in the early 1990s and reached Finland about ten years later. How did this phenomenon manifest itself in Finland at the turn of the millennium, and what were the consequences? Aksa Pajala, Eeva Partanen and Havu Kauppinen will feature as panellists, moderated by Siri Törölä from the Punk Museum. Following the discussion at 17.00, Kino Regina will screen ‘The Punk Singer’, a documentary film about Kathleen Hanna directed by Sini Anderson.
Rebellion in practice

The rebellion did not stop at slogans and the lyrics of punk songs in Finland, either, but led to various actions and events. Elviira Heikkilä, Janne Nyström and Kaide Laaksonen look back on their days as activists, reflect on the present day and the need for rebellion and its various forms, hosted by Timo Kiippa of the Punk Museum. Following the discussion, the documentary film ‘White Riot’, directed by Rubika Shah, will be screened at Kino Regina at 17.00.
