The fat lady has sung – new exhibit in October!
The Music! Echoes from the past of a city – exhibition is now closed. Drawing over ninety-thousand visitors in its two-year span clearly demonstrates the public’s desire for more participatory museum experiences. Musical history has often been portrayed through dusty old instruments in glass cabinets or by focusing on selected individuals from the classical music genre. Taking in the experiences of everyday Helsinki-ites and molding the sights and sounds of the city into an exhibit was a bold move – but it proved to be a success.
Hakasalmi Villa is closed and being refurbished until mid-October, when it reopens with a new photography exhibition celebrating Finland’s one-hundred-year journey of independence. The exhibition reveals the fascinating tales of Helsinki’s centenarians through their photo albums and portraits.
