Let’s celebrate spring

To celebrate spring, the Helsinki by Night exhibition will also be open on May Day, 30 April; Mother’s Day, 10 May; and Ascension Day, 14 May, from 11.00 to 17.00. On top of this, admission to the exhibition is free on the last Friday of every month. The next free Fridays are 24 April and 29 May, from 11.00 to 17.00. Please note that Villa Hakasalmi will be closed on May Day, 1 May.
Happy Finnish Photography Day
A celebration of Finnish photography will take place at Villa Hakasalmi on Saturday 25 April from 13.00 to 16.00. Two of the top Finnish photographers will take you deeper into their work. After the talks, there will be a discussion and a guided tour of the Helsinki by Night exhibition in Finnish.
Stefan Bremer will shed some light on how he approaches strangers, gets permission to photograph them and, thus, earns his picture under the title Dokumentaarisen kuvan lunastaminen (‘Earning the documentary image’).
Elina Brotherus will give a talk titled Tilan ottaminen omissa kuvissa (‘Taking up space in your own photographs’). Her work moves from personal history to art history, from self-portraiture to the universal human presence. She approaches her projects mischievously and playfully at times, and seriously at others. Brotherus reminds us that women need to take their place in the image and in the public space and be bold in using their own voice.
Host your own party in the Villa Hakasalmi meeting room
Come and have a wonderful time in the Villa Hakasalmi meeting room on the corner of Musiikkitalo and Finlandia Hall, right in the heart of Helsinki. The meeting room in the idyllic and peaceful annex is ideal for meetings and group work. More detailed booking and arrival instructions and accessibility information can be found in Varaamo. Catering services for meetings or parties can be ordered from the Rakastan café in the museum courtyard, or you can bring your own food and drinks.
Stefan Bremer’s photography exhibition has attracted nearly 60,000 visitors
We are grateful to each visitor! If you prefer a quieter time, we recommend visiting mid-week. There’s still time to see the exhibition, because Helsinki by Night will run throughout the summer until 30 August 2026.
